Book of the Year made in Pohořelice

The results of the literary competition Magnesia Litera for the year 2019 were announced and we are pleased that the main prize went to a publication made just in our country in Pohořelice. The book of the year was the novel Clock of Lead by writer Radka Denemarková (publisher Host). The author brings an uncompromising view of contemporary China as a non-free country of totalitarian stamping. She worked on an unusually large novel for five years.

Among the nominated books appeared two other titles from our production - adventure book for children Prašina by Vojtěch Matocha (publishing house Paseka) and a collection of reflections The second derivation of desire from economist Tomáš Sedláček (publishing house 65th field).

Magnesia Litera book prizes were awarded for the 18th time this year. A total of nine categories are competing and the winner is selected by an expert jury. The competition aims to draw attention to exceptional titles from domestic book production across all genres.
